The 1989 Sovereign commemorated 500 years since the Tudor Sovereign was introduced under Henry VII in 1489. It is a one-year commemorative Proof Sovereign with a special design.
Correct design and specifications
The coin is a full Sovereign in 22-carat gold, weighing 7.98 grams and measuring 22.05 millimetres. Elizabeth II is seated on the coronation throne on the special obverse. The reverse shows the crowned Royal Arms over a double Tudor Rose, designed by Bernard Sindall. This is not the normal St George and dragon reverse.
